About Ash

Hi, I'm Ash — a sports nutritionist and personal trainer from Japan. I spent about six years working in Australia before moving back home in 2026.
I wear a FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitor and test everyday Japanese foods and habits on my own blood sugar. 2,000+ readings so far.
How I test
- One change at a time. Same meal, same portion, same time of day. Only one thing changes.
- A fixed yardstick. 150g of plain white rice is my baseline. Everything is compared against it.
- Repeat until it's clear. One reading can be luck. A pattern across many tests is what I trust.
- Show everything. Every result goes up — including the ones that make me look bad.
Why Japanese foods?
Japan has its own food culture around blood sugar: mulberry leaf tea, barley tea, natto, vinegar, eating vegetables first. Plenty of it is talked about, but rarely measured. I live here, buy these things at the supermarket, and test them. When something is hard to find outside Japan, I say what to look for instead.
What this site is not
This is one person's record plus general information from published research. It isn't a clinical study and it isn't medical advice. I don't sell supplements and nothing here is sponsored.
